Keeping Dahlia Tubers over Winter

http://gardenofeaden.blogspot.ca/2009/10/how-to-over-winter-dahlia-tubers.html

The ideal temperature for dahlia tuber preservation is 44 to 48 degrees F.

We keep them in an insulated box attached to the wall inside the garage.

A couple of light bulbs turn 'ON' via a thermostat if the temperature nears freezing point.

In this way the temperature is maintained about 40 degrees F. if it is at least that cold outside.

The bulbs are stored in plastic boxes with vermiculite to maintain the humidity around the bulbs. The boxes are left open inside the sealed wall unit. A computer fan keeps the air circulating inside the box.

The temperature and humidity are monitored by an application on the internet that will send me alerts to my iphone or ipad (another application on ios) if the temperature changes outside of preset limits set in the application.

Here is the info for the system we use:   a wireless tag monitoring the temperature and humidity.  The monitor system has worked very well since 2015. It also plots the temperature and humidity hich you can use for later archiving.
